Google has recently signed an agreement to buy clean energy from a company called ‘Kairos Power’ which is a leader in small nuclear reactors. Google Nuclear Power deal to Fuel AI Data Centers is the first of its kind.
Google Nuclear Reactor deal to Fuel AI Data Centers Kairos Power is a US-based nuclear technology company that also deals with engineering and manufacturing in the nuclear segment, whose aim is to generate clean energy while improving quality of life and protecting the environment.
Google Nuclear Power Deal to Fuel AI Data Centers: Why is Google using nuclear reactors to power up its data center?
Google and other Tech Giants like Microsoft, and Amazon also have similar goals. Their mission is to make a cleaner, Greener and more sustainable environment while stepping ahead in the field of technology like artificial intelligence.
As AI resources need a lot of electricity, these nuclear reactors will generate enough power to make the dream come true.
Along with Google, other Tech Giants like Amazon and Microsoft are also aiming towards nuclear energy to source their data centers as AI is booming.
This will encourage all the other companies to think about the environmental growth along with their company growth. This will ensure that the people who will use the technology are in safe hands.

What will Google do with this agreement?
Google is a very innovative company with innovative products like Google Pixel, Google Chrome, Google home etc. Now, Google has stepped into a different world of nuclear reactors, which is the first time in the Corporate world. They are purchasing small nuclear reactors to generate a considerable amount of electricity to source their AI resources which indeed need a huge amount of electricity due to their intensive functioning. More reasons we will discuss below.
Google aims to use the small nuclear reactors to generate power to be used in Artificial intelligence.
As per the reports, Google has ordered seven nuclear reactors from Kairos Power.
Last month, Microsoft signed a deal with an American energy company called ‘Constellation Energy’ to restore a decommissioned nuclear reactor at Three Mile Island, Pennsylvania.
Why does AI require a lot of electricity, and why does Google require nuclear reactors to generate electricity?
AI requires a lot of electricity for Data Processing, Complex computations and Continuous Operations.
AI systems which process and analyse huge amounts of data, especially machine learning models, require significant energy for data storage and retrieval from servers.
In essence, the complexity, size, and always-on nature of AI operations are the main drivers of its high electricity demand.
Small Modular Reactors (SMRs):
SMRs can help big companies like Google, Facebook etc.
- Reliable Power Supply: SMRs have the capability to source a constant electricity output which is difficult to get from renewable sources like Solar or Wind energy. This is because renewable sources of energy may have availability issues depending upon the weather.
- Scalability: SMRs are smaller in size and hence they are portable. Due to this nature, small reactors can be moved near the data centers and can be controlled easily for regulated electricity needs.
- Low Carbon Emissions: The main aim is to power up AI data centers and be nice to the environment. The main thing about them is that thy emit very less or no carbon particles in the environment which also avoids Green house effect. and thereby contributing to Sustainable development.
In conclusion, we can say that the Google’s Nuclear Power agreement with Kairos Power is a smart and powerful move in favour of technology and human beings. This will ensure the coming generations will have access to the best technology in the best living conditions. Making the environment clean and green should be the main aim of big tech companies now a days.
